Other important skin diseases in dogs

Fleas and ticks or parasites

Fleas and ticks can cause skin diseases in dogs by sucking dog blood. These insects are one of the most common parasitic diseases in dogs. They enter the dog’s skin and cause an allergic reaction.  So the dog constantly scratches himself due to irritation of his skin. In some dogs, the symptoms of an allergic reaction are much more severe and show themselves as inflamed and reddened skin. So to get rid of itching and skin irritation, the dog constantly scratches or bites that part.

Treatment

The veterinarian eliminates these parasites by prescribing topical treatments or injections. However, depending on the size and severity of the parasites, the treatment period can be shorter or longer. Fleas and ticks are bloodthirsty parasites that can survive for a long time without a host in the lint of carpets, sheets, etc. Therefore, it’s essential to clean your house with a vacuum cleaner, wash the dog’s bed and sleeping place. Then make sure that all the parasites are gone by completing the treatment and revisit period.

Scabies

Scabies is one of the most severe skin illnesses in dogs, caused by tiny parasites that live and feed on the dog’s skin and hair. There are two types of scabies:

Demodex scabies

This scabies is caused by a small, microscopic parasite called the Demodex tick that infects most puppies and dogs under one year of age, older dogs, and dogs with weakened immune systems.

Sarcoptic scabies

Sarcoptic ticks cause these scabies; It causes severe itching and often starts at the ears and spreads to the other parts. Symptoms of scabies include shedding with severe itching and redness of the skin in the affected areas. Just like fleas and ticks, if your dog is infected with scabies, be sure to wash his sleeping area and avoid contact with other animals.

Treatment

A veterinarian can detect the presence of these parasites by sampling and examining the skin under a microscope. Scabies treatment mainly involves prescribing pills and washing with a special shampoo. By eliminating the parasites, annoying symptoms such as itching and inflammation of the coat are also reduced.

Dandruff

Dogs can get dandruff and dry skin. Dandruff is one of the most common skin illnesses in dogs and can usually signify a more serious problem such as an infection. Some dog breeds are prone to dry coats, especially in winter. Nutrition and diet also have a big impact on this situation. High-quality and rich sources of protein, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids all help keep the dog’s skin and hair healthy.

Treatment

Dandruff is a simple problem, and the veterinarian can easily solve it by prescribing special shampoos. Of course, a veterinarian must examine the dog so that this dandruff doesn’t lead to a more serious problem and disease.

Lupus autoimmune disease

Lupus is an autoimmune illness; the dog’s immune system attacks his cells and causes illness and trouble. If your dog’s body has sores and skin inflammation, especially around the nose, eyes and paws, and it takes a long time to heal, it could be a sign of an autoimmune disorder. Lupus can lead to serious health problems if not diagnosed and treated in time. Therefore, if there is a wound in the dog’s body and it takes too long to heal, be sure to consult a veterinarian.
