03 Sep Harmful Chemicals for Pets (Part 1)
Every day we use dozens of chemical detergents for cleaning and washing. We know that these materials are harmful to us. So, we keep them away from the reach of children, but we are rarely familiar with their effects on pets. We know that we shouldn’t eat detergents like bleach or insecticides, but sometimes we forget that our pet walks on the same ground that we washed with the bleach and is likely to put his hands inside his mouth or lick her feet. There’s a list of ten chemicals at home in this article, which should be very cautious in their use.
Ten harmful chemicals for pets
Bleach
Bleach is the name of the home whitening material used every day and is very dangerous for humans. Although animals don’t eat something smelly, it’s still possible that bleach may be rubbed on the paws and their hair. They are finally forced to lick them and clean their body or their claws. Bleach can cause nausea, seizure, faintness and even death of your pet. So, please avoid using this chemical everywhere your dog walks, and bleach can contact his body. Also, never wash his bed with bleach, especially if he’s accustomed to chewing them.
Antifreeze
This chemical substance may tempt your pet because of the sweet smell. Antifreeze is very harmful to dogs, and even a tiny amount can kill the dog. This chemical is spread inside the body and damages it. If your dog eats it, he needs urgent care and must be treated and monitored immediately.
Kerosene, gasoline and other flammable materials
The probability of eating these materials is very low due to the toxic and unpleasant odour of the pet. But sometimes these materials are on the ground and not well cleaned. Like bleach, it’s still possible that these materials stay on the dog’s paw or hair. Eventually, he licks those areas to clean them. So the unpleasant taste of this material goes in his mouth. Be careful if these materials were poured somewhere. Please clean it up quickly to keep your dog healthy. Motor oil can also be harmful to the pet, so keep it clean if your dog is in your parking lot.
insecticide
Some insecticides, such as whatever you use to treat fleas and ticks, are very harmful to animals if swallowed. The fleas and ticks collars are toxic to your dog if eaten. So when your dog has this collar, be careful that it’s fixed and all its components are clinging. Some of the fleas and ticks prevention medications include the Permethrin chemical that is heavily toxic for cats. So before using, be sure to study the information label to ensure that it doesn’t hurt your dog. Some use Boric Acid to eliminate pests. This material is hazardous for pets and shouldn’t be used in the house near them.
pine sol
These detergents usually contain substances that aren’t suitable for your dog and can cause problems such as seizures. Even worse, if you have to use these detergents, thoroughly clean and dry the surface before allowing your pet to enter.
Laundry detergent
Some of these detergents are very toxic to pets. In addition to chemicals, they have colours and odours that are incompatible with them. However, most of the time, clothes and fabrics washed with these materials aren’t harmful to pets. But if your dog chews his bed, it’s better to use a suitable detergent for him.
Fertilizer
Using fertilizers has terrible consequences for your pet. Of course, it’s improbable that your pets eat these materials, but the fertilizer may still stick to their claws or hair and enter their bodies. If your dog walks in the yard, be sure to use natural fertilizer and something that won’t harm him.
Carbolic acid
This substance is sometimes used to treat baldness. But if it gets into your pet’s digestive system, it can make them very sick. It may also be absorbed through the skin. If your dog is shedding or has baldness on the part of his body, visit your veterinarian for treatment.
