Some dangerous diseases transmitted from dog to human

Leptospirosis diseases

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can affect humans and animals. Many animals and even dogs may have this type of bacteria in their urine. Dogs can be vaccinated to protect against some species of leptospirosis.

Leptospirosis bacteria are spread through the urine of infected animals, which can enter water or soil and live there for weeks to months. Some animals that can spread leptospirosis include cattle, pigs, horses, dogs, rodents, and wild animals.

Leptospirosis occurs worldwide but is more common in tropical and subtropical climates. People who deal directly with dogs may be at risk for leptospirosis. Dogs infected with leptospirosis may show no signs of disease.

Symptoms in pets

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomit
  • Fatigue
  • Lack of appetite
  • Conjunctiva (redness of the eyes)
  • Jaundice (yellow skin or eyes)
  • Changes in urine (too regular, less than usual)

Some dogs with severe illnesses, such as kidney or liver failure or bleeding lungs, may die from leptospirosis infection. People with this disease may not have specific symptoms, but in some cases, the symptoms usually appear within two days to 4 weeks of exposure.

Symptoms in humans

  • Tremors
  • Rush
  • Jaundice
  • Diarrhea
  • High fever
  • Headache
  • Vomit
  • stomach ache
  • Muscular pain
  • Conjunctiva (red eyes)

In some rare cases, the disease can lead to liver, kidney and even hemorrhagic pneumonia. Leptospirosis can be treated with antibiotics, and early diagnosis and medication can reduce the duration and severity of the disease.

Plague diseases

A plague is a severe bacterial infection that is primarily transmitted by fleas. The plague bacterium is a zoonotic disease commonly found in small mammals and their fleas.

Infected people often develop symptoms after a period of one to seven days. The plague is transmitted between animals and humans through the bite of infected fleas, direct contact with infected tissues, and inhalation of infected respiratory droplets. Dogs and cats can be infected with the plague and transmit the infection to humans.

Symptoms in pets

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomit
  • Fatigue
  • Decreased appetite
  • Inflammation of the lymph nodes
  • In some cases, plague in dogs can lead to pneumonia and respiratory disorders.

Tick-borne

Pets are susceptible to tick-borne infections or tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, tularemia, ehrlichiosis, babesiosis and others. Pet owners should consult their veterinarian about suitable products for their pets to prevent ticks.

Many of these products also help prevent flea contamination. Treating pets for ticks can reduce the risk of typhoid fever for you and your pets. Ticks can infect inside and around the ears, the eyelids, under the collar, feet, between the hind legs, the toes, or around dogs’ tails. Symptoms of atypical disease in dogs and other animals can vary depending on the type of infection and may not even cause specific symptoms.

Some of the typical diseases in dogs

  • Archeliosis or anaplasmosis: It’s caused by tiny bacteria that can lead to fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, weight loss, vomiting and bleeding (nose) in dogs.
  • Lyme disease: Caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, which can cause lameness, fever and loss of appetite in dogs.

Symptoms of typhoid fever can vary from person to person but usually include fever, chills, body aches, and sometimes a rash. Some atypical diseases can be severe and even fatal. See a doctor immediately if you are in a tick-infested area or have been bitten by a tick and have these symptoms.
